KidsAP started on 1st January 2017, over the next 60 months the consortium will assess the ability of the artificial pancreas (also known as closed loop) to improve glucose control in the most vulnerable population with type 1 diabetes, children aged 1 to 7 years.
The KidsAP project is divided into work packages.
KidsAP will include two clinical studies. This first, KidsAP01 was a pilot study which compared closed loop insulin delivery using standard strength and diluted insulin. The results of this study will feed into the design of the main study. A summary of the study results is now available.
The main study, KidsAP02 is a two-period cross over study comparing closed loop insulin delivery to sensor augmented pump therapy over 2 periods of 4 months. 72 children will be included in the study which will last up to 11 months.
